HAND AND WRIST PROCEDURES
Trigger Finger
WHO ARE GOOD CANDIDATES
Trigger finger occurs when the flexor tendon catches or locks during finger movement, often causing pain, stiffness, or a popping sensation. Good candidates for surgical treatment are those whose symptoms persist despite conservative therapies such as splinting, NSAIDs, or corticosteroid injections.
THE PROCEDURE
Trigger finger release involves a small incision in the palm to cut the A1 pulley, relieving pressure on the tendon and allowing smooth movement. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and takes only a few minutes. In select cases, percutaneous (needle-based) release may be an option.
EXPECTED RESULTS AND RECOVERY
Patients typically experience immediate improvement in finger motion and resolution of pain. Most return to light activities within a few days and resume full use of the hand within a few weeks. Minor soreness or swelling may persist temporarily. Recurrence is rare, and long-term outcomes are excellent.
