HAND AND WRIST PROCEDURES

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

WHO ARE GOOD CANDIDATES
Cubital tunnel syndrome affects individuals experiencing numbness or tingling in the ring and little fingers, often accompanied by hand weakness. It’s commonly caused by compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. Candidates for surgery include those whose symptoms do not improve with conservative measures such as elbow splints or activity modification.

THE PROCEDURE
Surgical treatment may involve ulnar nerve decompression, medial epicondylectomy, or transposition (moving the nerve to a less compressed position). The approach depends on the severity and underlying cause of nerve compression. The procedure is typically done under regional or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

EXPECTED RESULTS AND RECOVERY
Most patients experience significant relief of numbness and tingling, though full nerve recovery may take several months, especially if symptoms were long-standing. Temporary soreness and limited elbow motion are expected, but most return to normal function within 6–8 weeks. Physical therapy may be recommended.
