What is LATISSE?
LATISSE is a prescription-only topical treatment made by Allergan, the company that brought us BOTOX® Cosmetic. When LATISSE is applied to the base of the upper lashes, it promotes the growth of thicker, darker, longer eyelashes. The active ingredient, bimatoprost, encourages an increase in duration of the growth phase of the lashes, as well as the quantity and pigmentation of the lashes. The result is thicker, darker lashes that are noticeably longer than before.
LATISSE is the only FDA approved eyelash growth product, and is available only by prescription. Bimatoprost has been used safely in opthalmological applications for years, and side effects of LATISSE are rare. Drs. Goldberg and Krieger will discuss any questions or concerns with you in detail at your consultation.
How Does LATISSE Work?
LATISSE is a solution that you apply to the base of the upper lashes every night. It comes with a wand applicator, which is used to carefully apply a small amount after you have removed your makeup and washed your face for the evening. Any excess should be carefully wiped away so that it doesn't get into the eye or on surrounding skin. LATISSE is only intended for use on the upper eyelashes.
LATISSE works best when used every day as directed. Continued regular use of LATISSE will result in longer, thicker lashes beginning at approximately 4 weeks. It may take up to 4 months to see the full results of your LATISSE treatment, as changes take place over the natural hair growth cycles. If you discontinue use of LATISSE, your eyelashes will gradually return to their original condition.
