The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

For hair removal at our Virginia plastic surgery facility, we use an advanced laser that targets the hair follicle and destroys it so that hair will not grow back. Our Sciton Profile Laser System allows us to safely treat all skin types with a combination of a long pulsed Yag laser and BBL (broadband light) technology. This laser delivers simultaneous cooling to the surface of the treated area, so that surrounding skin is left intact and undamaged. The Sciton laser is capable of treating both large and small patches of hair, and works well on almost any skin type. Since hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects active hair growth, several treatments may be needed at 6 to 8 week intervals to achieve complete results.

The procedure is relatively painless - many patients compare it to a slight tingling or snapping sensation. A treatment session takes anywhere from only a few minutes for small areas to 45 minutes for larger areas. Compared with electrolysis - which requires that a needle be inserted into each individual hair follicle, through which an electric current is delivered - laser hair removal in Virginia is much quicker and much more comfortable.
