Dermal Fillers
The early signs of aging often include wrinkles, creases, and loss of volume in the face. While there is no shortage of products on the market that claim to reverse these conditions, true results can only be achieved through products which penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin.
Dermal fillers have become a popular and effective option for women who seek to "plump up" facial skin and smooth out wrinkles, but who are not ready for plastic surgery. Virginia cosmetic surgeons Dr. Andrew Goldberg and Dr. Mitchel Krieger offer a wide range of "injectables" to correct a variety of age-related skin conditions.

Your Dermal Filler Options
Dermal fillers have become an important component in the fight against aging for many women. With little to no downtime, this minimally invasive option can almost instantly take years off of your appearance, with results that are long-lasting. Here at Goldberg & Krieger Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, we offer the following dermal filler options for women who are not quite ready for plastic surgery in Virginia.
Restylane® and Perlane®
Restylane® and Perlane® are both pure, synthetic versions of hyaluronic acid, a substance made naturally by the human body, which helps give the skin firmness and elasticity. Plumping and restoring fullness to the skin where facial creases and folds have set in, both Restylane and Perlane are recognized as reliable remedies for wrinkles and indentations – particularly around the nose and mouth. Restylane is particularly well-suited for lip augmentation as well. Perlane is composed of larger particles of hyaluronic acid, and is intended for injection deeper into the skin.
A tiny amount of the cosmetic dermal filler is injected directly into the skin through an ultra fine needle. Results can be seen immediately, and should last approximately six months. Restylane and Perlane are completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid, and are safely and gradually eliminated by the body.
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a unique dermal filler, in that it offers both immediate and continuing results. This injectable filler is a formulation of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The filler is broken down by the body in two phases, first the carrier and then the microspheres. During this process, a network of collagen fibers grows around the microspheres, which is expected to provide a long lasting effect. Although the calcium-based microspheres gradually degrade, the remaining new collagen provides lasting volume.
This prolonged degradation process makes Radiesse a longer lasting filler than hyaluronic acid or collagen based fillers, with expected results lasting a year or more. Your Virginia plastic surgeon administers Radiesse through a series of tiny injections directly under the skin's surface, then massages the area to create an even distribution.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is another hyaluronic acid product brought to us by the makers of BOTOX® Cosmetic. This filler is a smooth consistency gel which adds volume and hydration to indentations or wrinkles in the skin. Juvéderm is widely used for the treatment of "smile lines," or nasolabial folds - the creases that run from the outer corner of the nose to just under the corner of the mouth.
Juvéderm is injected into the deeper layers of the skin beneath the fold or crease, instantly restoring volume and smoothing lines. There is no "down time" with this minimally invasive procedure, which produces results lasting approximately 9 months.
Sculptra®
Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable material known as "poly-L-lactic acid." The components of Sculptra are biocompatible (do not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). Sculptra effectively restores volume to areas of the face that show signs of facial fat loss, either due to aging or illness.
Sculptra is injected below the surface of the skin in areas that demonstrate fat loss. This dermal filler provides a gradual increase in skin thickness, with results emerging within the first few treatment sessions. Although not immediate, the results of Sculptra treatment are long-lasting. Many patients at our Virginia plastic surgery practice report results that last up to 2 years or more.
