Office Policies
As patients approach surgery, they frequently need information about the various surgical costs, payment options and about their potential insurance benefits. We hope the following information will be helpful.
Virginia Cosmetic Surgery Estimated Fees
Your quote includes all pre and post-operative visits. Anesthesia and facility charges are collected by the hospital and are estimated based on the length of time required for the procedure. If additional time is required you will be billed separately by the hospital for any additional charges. If overnight recovery is required in the hospital you will be billed separately by the hospital for these charges.
Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pumps are available for postoperative patients that remain overnight in the hospital. This is provided by and monitored by the anesthesia pain service and will be billed separately if requested. Hospital policy requires that breast tissue specimens generated from cosmetic surgery be submitted for pathologic analysis. These pathology services will also be billed separately by the pathology department. Special rates for these services are provided for our cosmetic surgery patients.
As prescription medications vary from patient to patient, they are a separate expense and are not included in your quote. The balance for cosmetic procedures is due at the time of your preoperative visit. If desired, we will assist you in arranging for financing for your surgery. If revisionary procedures are necessary within the first year, there may be no surgeon's fee, however the cost of the operating room, supplies and anesthesia would be your responsibility. The proposed surgeon's fee will be in effect for six months. All fees are current estimates.
Payment Options
Payment for cosmetic plastic surgery is due in full at the time of your preoperative visit. We provide a number of payment options which may be used individually or combined according to your wishes.
CASH OR CHECK: Personal Check, cashier's check, or cash.
CREDIT CARDS: Visa, Master Card, or American Express
OPTIONAL FINANCING PLANS: We work with CareCredit, a leading healthcare finance company, to provide our patients with affordable cosmetic surgery financing.
Insurance Coverage
The benefits paid by insurance companies for plastic surgery vary greatly from carrier to carrier and plan to plan. Therefore, we make every effort to determine in advance if insurance coverage exists. We ascertain the projected insurance payment and the required co-payment. We do this because we believe you need to be as informed as possible before surgery. Pre-certification does NOT guarantee payment for services performed. We know you realize that you are ultimately responsible for the full payment of your account, but we have found that our knowledge and experience can be an important factor in assisting you to collect your maximum benefits. Therefore, complete insurance information must be provided prior to scheduling plastic surgery in Virginia. If your insurance company requires a referral you must provide this at the time of service.
For cosmetic surgical procedures, you will be provided a fee estimate for the professional fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, and assistant fee (if applicable). If your surgery involves both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures you will be quoted fees for the cosmetic portion which are payable prior to surgery. The reconstructive portion will be billed through the appropriate insurance coverage.
Additional Charges
Anesthesia, facility, and assistant fees for cosmetic surgery are based upon the type of procedure performed as well as the length of surgical time required. Drs. Goldberg and Krieger try to complete all procedures within the estimated time period, but unexpected occurrences can prolong surgical time resulting in additional charges. You will be billed directly by the hospital and the anesthesiologist for any added charges.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that a situation may arise that could force you to postpone your surgery. Please understand that such changes affect not only your surgeon but other patients as well. Our surgeons' time, as well as that of the operating room staff, is valuable, and we request your courtesy and concern.
If you need to cancel your surgery after your preoperative visit, your payment will be refunded except for $250.00, which will by applied to the payment for your rescheduled surgery or used for processing fees if you have not rescheduled within 30 days.
