Virginia Plastic Surgeon Says More Massive Weight Loss Patients Seeking Plastic Surgery

As more and more Americans undergo weight loss surgery, they are succeeding at losing dramatic amounts of weight—often between one and two hundred pounds. As a result, more patients are seeking bariatric plastic surgery to remove the excess skin. Nearly 67,000 bariatric plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2007.

Dr. Krieger is co-author of the new Bariatric Plastic Surgery—A Guide to Cosmetic Surgery after Weight Loss (Addicus Books, 2008). The book, Bariatric Plastic Surgery, describes each of the body contouring procedures that plastic surgeons perform, including: body lifts, tummy tucks, thigh lifts, breast lifts, arm lifts, facelifts, and neck lifts. It also covers such topics as candidate requirements for the surgery, what to expect from the procedures, preparing for the surgery, and recovering at home.

Mitchel Krieger, M.D., is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Fairfax, Virginia. His practice is based at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, one of the busiest bariatric centers in the country and recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
