BOTOX® Cosmetic

You've probably heard a lot about this facial rejuvenation procedure that makes wrinkles, creases, and crow's feet melt away. BOTOX® Cosmetic, a popular option among our Fairfax patients, is a safe and powerful injection that relaxes the hyperactive muscles that cause the skin to wrinkle.

Many facial wrinkles are the product of muscles that contract year after year - until the skin and tissue along the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes becomes noticeably pinched and creased. Using an injected version of the purified chemical botulinum toxin type A, BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks impulses from the nerves to the tiny facial muscles that cause these imperfections to occur – essentially relaxing the muscles so that they cannot contract. Restylane®

Thermage®

Thermage® is a safe, clinically proven way to tighten skin, with improvements in tone, contour, and texture occurring naturally through the stimulation of your own collagen. Our office offers the latest technology from Thermage® introducing Thermage NXT to Northern Virginia. We are the first plastic surgery practice in the area to offer this exciting new technology.

Thermage® is completely non-invasive: no surgery, no injections. A single treatment tightens your existing collagen and stimulates new collagen growth. Improvements are both immediately visible and continue up to six months. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition and aging process.

The procedure itself is normally done as a single treatment that takes from 20 minutes to two hours depending on the treatment area. What's more, there is no downtime, so you can quickly resume your normal routine.

Unlike lasers, Thermage® works on all skin types and tones. Unlike injections or fillers, Thermage® works on your entire face: forehead, eyes, nasolabial folds, jaw line, jowls and the area under your chin. Thermage® can also be used to treat loose skin on the tummy, arms, hands and legs.

To understand how Thermage® works, it helps to know a little about how your skin works. The facial skin is made up of three distinct layers: a visible outer layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich underlayer beneath the surface called the dermis, and an inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer, also known as the fat layer that has a web of collagen fibers running through it.

When the collagen in these three layers breaks down due to sun exposure, family heredity, or the normal aging process, your face begins to sag and wrinkle. Naturally, treatments that work on just the surface can't do anything to restore the collagen in the underlayer or the inner layer of your skin.

Thermage® is the only non-invasive procedure available that tightens and renews your skin's collagen in all three layers. How? Thermage®'s unique Capacitive Radiofrequency (CRF) technology safely heats your skin's underlayer and the web of collagen in the inner layer, causing an immediate tightening as well as improved tone and texture. And the improvements will continue and become even more noticeable for four to six months following treatment due to new collagen growth.

Thermage® works on all skin types and colors. And there is no downtime, so you can quickly resume your daily routine.  Women 35-60 normally have the best and most predictable results. If your skin is too lax, the results will not be as dramatic. Normally, the complete procedure can be performed in just one session lasting from 20 minutes to two hours, depending on the treatment area. General anesthesia is not required, but to make sure you are comfortable the doctor may offer light pain medications prior to treatment.

During the treatment, you'll feel a brief, heat sensation each time Thermage® delivers radiofrequency energy to the underlayer of your skin. This indicates that your collagen is being stimulated and tightened. After treatment, your skin may be slightly red for a day or two. But most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment, with no downtime or special follow-up care.

DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing

Considered to be the newest advance in microdermabrasion, resurfacing with DiamondTome™ technology delivers the smooth, fresh, and radiant skin you've always wanted. Often, we use it to polish the skin following certain plastic surgery procedures at our Fairfax County center. While traditional microdermabrasion buffs the skin's outer layers with thousands of tiny, loose crystals, DiamondTome™ skin resurfacing employs a special wand embedded with diamond particles. Resurfacing occurs as the wand is gently passed over the skin. DiamondTome™ is less irritating than regular microdermabrasion and is ideal for patients with sensitive skin.

Levulan® Photodynamic Therapy

This is the latest treatment to improve the appearance of aging and sun-damaged skin. This unique treatment regimen combines multiple therapies such as microdermabrasion, application of FDA-approved Levulan®, and the use of the Vbeam® Vascular Laser. As a plastic surgery alternative for improving the appearance of photodamaged/aged skin, photodynamic therapy is able to achieve improvement at a more rapid pace because of this combined protocol. This treatment works both on the skin’s surface (to improve vascular and pigmented imperfections), and below this skin (to stimulate collagen and elastin fibers and to reduce oil production). This is also effective in treating adult acne, with results similar to those seen with Accutane®, minus the unpleasant side effects. This exciting new therapy protocol is proving to be one of the most exciting and effective ways of treating photoaged and acne-prone skin.

Endermologie®

The noninvasive, patented Endermologie® procedure uses a combination of rollers and external suction to combat the fatty deposits that form cellulite. Skin Peels
